The oxygen generator operates automatically, producing medical oxygen at 93% in accordance with Tunisian and European standards (ISO 10083 (2006) = Tunisian standard NT71.205 (2010)) and the new monograph for oxygen 93% +/- 3% (Ref 2455) of the European Pharmacopoeia 7th Edition, which specifies that oxygen is produced by purifying ambient air through adsorption (Pressure Swing Adsorption = PSA) on zeolites. Compressed air (78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, <1% other gases) is filtered, deoiled, and dried, with the service pressure automatically regulated. The air passes through molecular sieves where nitrogen is absorbed by the zeolite, increasing the oxygen concentration to 93% or more. The produced oxygen is sent to the buffer tank via a multifunction block. Nitrogen is removed via a silencer and vented outside. Part of the produced oxygen is used to assist in nitrogen desorption from one column while the other column produces oxygen (and vice versa). A pneumatic and automatic column balancing system ensures a continuous oxygen flow.
- Compressed Air Unit: Includes the air compressor, air treatment chain (dryer + complete filtration), and air tank. It supplies the oxygen generator with filtered and dry compressed air.
- Oxygen Generator: Consists of an oxygen generator and a pressurized oxygen tank operating between 5 and 7 bars. The generator produces oxygen that directly supplies the hospital or clinic’s pipeline networks.
The final configuration of the entire medical oxygen supply system will be as follows:
Moreover, the undeniable advantages of installing the oxygen generator are:.
- Technical: Continuous availability of high-quality medical oxygen 24/7, with product traceability through production history consultation.
- Economical: through amortization and return on investment over a short period (approximately 2 years). Indeed, the power consumption of the oxygen generator does not exceed 1.4 kW/m³ of oxygen produced, and the annual maintenance cost is estimated at 7% of the generator’s purchase price. This allows the hospital to allocate additional budgets to other priority services.
- Safety: by minimizing the road transport of oxygen cylinders and ensuring optimal oxygen quality without interruption for patients.
